New ICS President, Declan Brady

The Irish Computer Society (ICS) has elected a new leadership team for the coming year, naming Declan Brady as the new ICS President and Professor Tiziana Margaria the new Vice President. Mary Sharp and John Ward were re-appointed as Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, respectively.

Following the end of his term, Mike Hinchey stood down as ICS president after three years in the position. The ICS Council expressed its gratitude to Mike for his time and commitment to the society.

Declan Brady said: “With so many different challenges facing Ireland, there are many opportunities too; this is an exciting time for the Irish Computer Society. The impacts of COVID have left us with a renewed focus on core concerns of the IT Professional; we have a great base to capitalise on leading the profession out of the pandemic.

“Post BREXIT, looking at new ways of cooperating and inter-working across the EU, and between the EU and the UK, is a key area. We’ve a great team and great services at the Irish Computer Society.”

Mr Brady said he and the Council are looking forward to working with Mary, Frank and the team in this new phase of the Irish Computer Society.

“I want to thank Mike Hinchey for his leadership and stewardship through this period of uncertainty; we are able to look forward with great confidence,” he said.

Mr Hinchey is also the current President of IFIP.
