IFIP WG 8.3 Decision Support held a virtual lunchtime seminar event on Friday 25th March 2022.  The event, attended by more than 30 practitioners and academics from across the globe, explored the topic of ethical decision-making.

While issues arising from ethics and trust are not new, there is increasing concern about what it means to make ethical decisions, particularly in light of the increasing use of emerging technologies such as AI and analytics.

The speakers included:

  • Reverend Timothy Brown, an associate professor of Law and Social Responsibility at Loyola University Maryland;
  • Dr Sara Helen Wilford, a Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK, who also works as an ethics evaluator for the European Commission; and
  • Dr Adrian Byrne, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Career-FIT PLUS Fellow at CeADAR who is also Lead Researcher at the AI Ethics Centre at Idiro Analytics.
