Italy’s National Workshop for Technology Transfer and Higher Education
Italy’s National Workshop for Technology Transfer and Higher Education took place at the Industrial Computer Engineering (ICE) Laboratory in Verona from 16-17 June, 2022.
The workshop was a meeting place between industry and university researchers, enabling them to build partnerships and synergies to make technology transfer easier. Leading companies presented their research interests and university groups presented their prototypes. The role of higher doctoral education was be analysed with growth opportunities available for students scouting for companies. Representatives of major projects financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza) presented opportunities for cascading grants.
During the workshop, the participants were able to visit the production line located in the adjacent Industrial Computer Engineering (ICE) Laboratory, where all the standard technologies of Industry 4.0 are exemplified with projections toward Industry 5.0.
A total of nine companies attended the workshop, each of which had different backgrounds and requirements. These companies were: SmartMe.IO, Hitachi Rail STS, Accelerat, Simem, Leonardo, STMicroelectronics, Raytheon Technologies, Cineca, and BLM Group.
Franco Fummi (University of Verona), Alessandro Cimatti (Bruno Kessler Foundation), Luigi Palopoli (University of Trento), and Francesca Milani (Speedhub) were the Scientific Organisers. They were able to find and invite the right companies and universities for this workshop. Several synergies between them were born from this event. While Enrico Fraccaroli (University of Verona) was the Workshop Organiser and took care of organising the event in all of its details.
