It’s been a busy month for TC12. In addition to the inaugural AI4GS conference in Paris (see previous article), TC12 Chair Eunika Mercier-Laurent has been involved in various other international events on behalf of IFIP.

On 4-5 November, Eunika was invited to participate in the panel “Living with AI: What to expect from the Future?” on the World Future Forum in Taguspark, Lisbon.

The panel explored the AI impact on society, industries and the global economy as well as its potential in finding innovative solutions for complex issues such as climate change, healthcare and economic inequality.

The panelists shared their insights on how trustworthy, responsible, transparent, and human-centric AI can be harnessed to balance technological advancement with societal well-being and sustainability.

Eunika also participated in a UNESCO event, “Women for Ethical AI” on 30 October 2024. This event took a deep dive into the complex impact of AI on gender equality and women’s rights, exploring real-world solutions for a more ethical AI ecosystem.

The W4EAI Conference featured in-depth discussions on how AI technologies can either reinforce or dismantle existing gender biases, including sessions on: boosting female representation in AI; addressing gender stereotypes in generative AI; tackling data inequality and understanding how gender biases in data sets can skew AI outcomes; and breaking barriers for women in tech, among many other topics.
