After a two and half year consultation process, the IFIP Board has approved the new IFIP Strategy at its recent meeting in April in Stockholm Sweden, hosted by the Computer Society of Sweden and KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

IFIP President Anthony Wong thanked the hosts and the team in the IFIP Secretariat, led ably by the General Secretary, Anatolii Marushchak, and the many IFIP stakeholders around the world, for their support and service.

The strategy process was driven by IFIP Vice President Elizabeth Eastwood with assistance from Technical Assembly Chair Dr David Kreps, gathering input from General Assembly members and other stakeholders including IFIP Member Society Presidents and CEOs.

The final document defines five Strategic Objectives, each underpinned by five Strategic Activities to better enable each IFIP sub-group to focus their contributions towards IFIP’s key goals.

IFIP President Anthony Wong said developing and finalizing the strategy was an important step in building a stronger, relevant, impactful and more sustainable IFIP.

“Over the term of my Presidency, IFIP has been about putting in place the structures and processes to support IFIP to grow its impact and influence into the future. Many of the issues encompassed in the strategy are already in train, such as our work to deepen our ties with various stakeholders including UN bodies and to raise visibility, relevance and awareness of IFIP’s many contributions across different spheres.

“I’m very grateful to Elizabeth Eastwood and David Kreps for their hard work and persistence in driving this outcome. It’s an important foundational piece to ensure IFIP’s continues to have a significant and lasting impact,” he said.

The Strategic Objectives are:

  1. Promote open and excellent science, independent of any business or government, in information processing.
  2. Communicate and publicize knowledge on information processing.
  3. Promote professionalism, excellence, digital equity, ethics and inclusion in ICT governance and application.
  4. Aim to be a leading, independent and influential voice of ICT, providing expert knowledge.
  5. Increase the value of membership.

Stay tuned for more details of how the strategy is being implemented across IFIP in the coming months.
