With artificial intelligence, computational thinking and digital capability reshaping classrooms worldwide, Professor Therese Keane is leading IFIP TC3 at a pivotal moment for global education.

Professor Keane was elected Chair of IFIP TC3 in January 2026, taking on leadership of IFIP’s Technical Committee focused on research, policy and practice in digital technologies and computing education.

IFIP TC3 brings together experts from around the world to advance understanding and innovation in digital learning, computing education and the effective use of technology in education systems and communities.

Professor Keane has made a sustained contribution to IFIP over many years, including serving as Australia’s national representative to TC3, Vice Chair and Chair of IFIP TC3 Working Group 3.3, and contributing to international conferences, publications and research collaborations.

She is Professor of STEM Education and Associate Dean, Research and Industry Engagement in the School of Education at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. Her work spans digital technologies in education, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, robotics, computational thinking, computing education and gender equity in STEM.

Professor Keane also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Education and Information Technologies, the official journal of IFIP TC3.

Across a career spanning more than 30 years, she has made a significant contribution to computing and digital technologies education in schools, universities and professional communities. She has authored textbooks for Years 11 and 12 students, supporting generations of secondary students and teachers in understanding and applying digital technologies, computing and information systems.

Her leadership contributions extend across local, national and international boards, committees and advisory groups, helping shape curriculum, policy, teacher professional learning and research agendas in digital and STEM education. She has received numerous awards recognising her leadership, scholarship and service to education.

As Chair of IFIP TC3, Professor Keane brings together extensive experience as an educator, researcher, author, editor and international leader. She is committed to strengthening global collaboration, advancing inclusive and future-focused digital education, and supporting educators, researchers and communities preparing learners for a rapidly changing technological world.
