The 19th IFIP Summer School on Privacy and Identity Management was held at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain from 10-13 September 2024. This annual event, co-organised by IFIP WG 11.6 (Identity Management) and IFIP WG9.6/11.7 (Information Technology: MisUse & the Law), provides an interdisciplinary platform to discuss the school’s topic from technical, legal, regulatory, socio-economic, societal, ethical, anthropological, philosophical and psychological perspectives.

This year’s special topic was “Generating Futures”, emphasising the interplay between novel AI applications – with a focus on generative AI – and privacy and identity management.

In line with the goal to bring together researchers and developers at different stages of their career, organisers compiled a program with student presentations and interactive workshops, as well as keynote presentations by renowned experts including Teresa Martínez Sánchez (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos – Spanish Data Protection Authority) and Jose Such (King’s College London).

The presentations sparked stimulating discussions during breaks and social events between researchers from different subject areas and career stages.

After evaluating all the presentations, the Best Presentation Award of the summer school was presented to two winners: Clara Strathmann for her paper entitled, “A Focus Group Study on Vulnerable Group’s Awareness of Vertical Privacy Online, Protection Measures and the Potential of Offline Analogies” and Anastasia Karagianni for a paper: “Unveiling Shadows: Exploring Privacy, Identity, and Personality Rights in the Age of Sexualised Deepfakes Through Feminist Lenses”.

The school’s organisers wish to thank Platform Privatheit and IFIP TC 11, for their generous support, as well as who presented at and participated in the event. Furthermore, the Steering Committee would like to express its sincere thanks to the organisers for a successful and enjoyable event.
