IFIP leaders delivered distinguished keynote addresses at the January 2026 meeting of the EU-funded BEiNG-WISE (Behavioral Next Generation in Wireless Networks for Cyber Security), reinforcing IFIP’s commitment to human-centric, sustainable cybersecurity in an AI-driven world.

From 26–27 January 2026, researchers from across Europe gathered at Sapienza University of Rome for a working meeting of BEiNG-WISE, a four-year European research network focused on strengthening cybersecurity in an increasingly always-connected environment shaped by AI, machine learning and next-generation wireless technologies.

BEiNG-WISE is a COST Action (CA22104), funded by COST, the European Cooperation in Science and Technology program. COST supports research and innovation networks across Europe, enabling scientists to collaborate, share knowledge and accelerate impact. Running from 22 September 2023 to 21 September 2027, BEiNG-WISE brings together experts exploring the intersection of behavioural science, advanced wireless networks and cybersecurity.

As advanced services and automated applications require progressively less direct human intervention, the integration of AI and emerging wireless technologies presents both opportunity and risk. BEiNG-WISE addresses these challenges by developing behavioural approaches to cybersecurity that place human factors at the centre of technological advancement.

The Rome meeting featured working group updates and forward-looking discussions on cyber resilience, sustainability, wireless technologies, human-centric security and “Securely Embracing Vibe Coding.” Participants shared research insights and collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening trust and resilience across digital infrastructures.

IFIP President, Kai Rannenberg, spoke on the relationship between sustainability and cybersecurity. He highlighted IFIP’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and raised critical questions concerning societal resilience and the protection of essential infrastructures.

He also pointed to the expertise within IFIP Technical Committees, particularly TC11, TC9 and TC6, as valuable resources for initiatives such as BEiNG-WISE. Emphasising collaboration, he underlined the importance of pan-European and global cooperation in addressing emerging cyber risks.

IFIP General Secretary, Anatolii Marushchak provided an overview of IFIP’s strategic priorities and international engagement. He reflected on IFIP’s longstanding relationship with UNESCO, its consultative status with UNIDO and other UN bodies, and its recent contribution at the United Nations General Assembly WSIS+20 High-Level Meeting. His address reinforced IFIP’s role in advancing globally coordinated, responsible approaches to digital transformation.

IFIP welcomed the opportunity to contribute its expertise to the BEiNG-WISE network and looks forward to continued collaboration in promoting a cybersecurity agenda that is progressive, resilient and firmly grounded in human values.
