IFIP Working Groups 8.3 (Decision Support) and 12.15 (Generative AI) are staging a joint open conference in Cork Ireland from 8-10 June 2026 to explore the topic: “Human-Centric Decision Making: Transforming with AI”.

Decision-making in today’s world is increasingly shaped by complex, dynamic and uncertain contexts. The role of decision support systems (DSS) has never been more critical, not just to automate tasks, but to augment human judgment, foster collaboration and support sense-making in situations that cannot be fully specified in advance. The transformations enabled by AI also signal a powerful force shaping the future of DSS, echoing both technological progress and strategic opportunities for system designers.

The 2026 Joint Open Conference of the IFIP WG 8.3 (Decision Support) & WG 12.15 (Generative AI) will highlight the applications, methods, analytics, stakeholders and impacts of decision making and decision support in society and business.

Keynote Speakers include:

  • Kieran O’Driscoll, Head of Data & Analytics for HEINEKEN’s Africa & Middle East region and a Global Top 100 Innovator in Data & Analytics (2024);
  • Tuure Tuunanen, Professor of Information Systems in the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä, Stockholm, Sweden;
  • Frada Burstein, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Human-Centred Computing at Monash University, Australia and a 20 year veteran of WG 8.3; and
  • William Swartout, Research Professor Emeritus in the USC Computer Science department, where he co-founded the Institute for Creative Technologies and the Center for Generative AI and Society.

WG 8.3 invites all interested parties to attend this in-person event at University College Cork, Ireland.

This Working Group has a long-standing tradition of fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on decision support systems, with a focus on how information systems/technology can enhance human effectiveness in complex, uncertain tasks.  WG 12.15 is the newest IFIP working group. Thus, this conference continues that legacy and openly pushes it forward into the age of AI.

On this basis, we aim to continue the success of past IFIP WG 8.3 conferences in supporting the dissemination of quality research, but also to provide a memorable experience at UCC, Cork, Ireland.
