The Informatics Association of Serbia (IAS) has successfully delivered the inaugural Digital World in My Hands – The Great Digital Adventure, a nationwide competition designed to develop digital literacy and computational thinking among primary school students.
The republic-level final was held on 22 May at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade, bringing together more than 200 Year 4 students from 68 teams across Serbia. Working together in teams, the students demonstrated their knowledge of digital technologies while showcasing collaboration, problem-solving and algorithmic thinking.
After the written competition, participants completed the online Great Digital Adventure challenge, giving them the opportunity to experience the style of digital competitions undertaken by students across Europe.
The competition was established to strengthen young people’s digital competencies and prepare them for the safe, responsible and effective use of digital technologies for learning, communication and collaboration.
Organised by IAS in partnership with the Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Belgrade and the Fibonacci Centre for Contemporary Skills and Technologies, the competition has already received national recognition through its inclusion in the Serbian Ministry of Education’s official Calendar of Competitions and Reviews for the 2025-2026 school year.
Although launched for the first time in 2026, the initiative generated remarkable interest, attracting more than 6,000 students from more than 1,900 three-member teams across all stages of the competition. The strong response reflects the growing importance of digital literacy in primary education and demonstrates IAS’s commitment to preparing the next generation with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
