At the beginning of 2023, within CLEI – Centro Latinoamericano de Estudios en Informatica, the Working Group on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) was created with the purpose of strengthening the teaching-learning processes and disseminating research activity in the area of Human-Computer Interaction, and to be a space for discussion and reflection on the future of the area at the Ibero-American level. The main objectives of this Group are the following:
- To make a study of various academic programs at the Ibero-American level, and worldwide, in HCI topics in terms of contents, objectives, methodologies, resources and evaluation mechanisms.
- Promote the realisation of various scientific activities in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (webinars, seminars, workshops, etc.), in order to promote knowledge in the area.
- Promote the exchange of experiences and joint work among the different participants of the HCI Working Group.
- Promote interaction between academia and industry on HCI issues.
- To cooperate with the different international HCI networks and associations.
- Promote the participation and affiliation of new universities and research centres in the HCI Working Group.
Within the framework of the 11th Ibero-American Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, held in Zacatecas (Mexico) from May 5 to 9, 2025 (https://11jihc.uaz.edu.mx/), a meeting was held to present Working Group 11 on Human-Computer Interaction and to participate in the annual meeting of the HCI-Collab Network (Collaborative Network to support teaching-learning processes in the area of Human-Computer Interaction at the Ibero-American level). At this meeting, WG11 was presented and the objectives and main works carried out were discussed.
The possibilities of linking some of the attendees to WG11 were discussed, and the question arose as to whether the new members of the institution to which they are linked should necessarily be CLEI members. In addition, it was possible to strengthen the collaboration link with the HCI-Collab Network and IFIP TC13 to strengthen the exchange of experiences in the teaching and dissemination of HCI at the Ibero-American level. In this sense, we will continue to organise a series of Webinars (the last Thursday of each month), and invite the CLEI community.
Considering that the webinars of the HCI-Collab Network are transmitted through a HCI-Collab Network Facebook account and then stored in a Youtube channel, it is expected that these resources can be used by the CLEI community. It was also proposed to disseminate the activities of WG 11 through the HCI-Collab Network media. For next year, the organisation of the 12th Ibero-American HCI Conference in Talca (Chile), together with the Chilean Computing Congress, and the possibility of working together with CLEI’s WG11 was proposed.
Likewise, it is mentioned that participation was achieved in the framework of the 11th Iberoamerican Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, through the participation in the different scientific activities carried out (presentations, workshops), generating spaces for discussion on the future of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at regional level, and where work begins on curricular structures to better promote the teaching of HCI in Iberoamerica.
