The first in a series of conferences dedicated to Artificial Intelligence for global security was held at Campus Cyber in Paris on November 19, 2024. Under the aegis of IFIP and organised by WG12.13 (AI for Global Security) the “AI4GS” event was sponsored by COMCYBER-MI, INRIA, SOPRA STERIA and AFIA.
After an introduction by IFIP President, Anthony Wong, via videoconference from Sydney, and a presentation by the chair of the IFIP AI Technical Committee (TC12), Eunika Mercier Laurent, General Perrot, AI coordinator for the National Gendarmerie and AI advisor for COMCYBER-MI, presented the main lines of the Gendarmerie’s AI activities, emphasising the fight against disinformation and the need for reliable AI to assist in public security missions while respecting rights and keeping humans at the heart of decisions.
The day was then organised around two sessions of research paper presentations, and a prize for the best paper was awarded to Jérémy Billuart, a student at ISEP, apprenticed at COMCYBER-MI for his paper “ODIP: an operational tool to fight against child abuse”, research on the state of the art in detecting child sexual abuse, co-written with Romain Gemignani.
Three panels provided an overview of the uses of AI in cyber defence, cybersecurity and defence, and a round table was devoted to the challenges of international AI regulation, focusing in particular on European regulations but also trends in China and the United States.

Perspectives
This 2024 edition of AI4GS highlighted a real enthusiasm for AI applications in many areas of global security. The various papers submitted by the researchers will be published by SPRINGER in its AICTS series.
To extend the success of this first edition, the AI4GS association is now opening its 2025 memberships so that interested researchers and industrialists can join and prepare the next edition of the conference together.
Memberships or support for the year 2025 can be done online on the AI4GS page.
