The Latin American Centre for Informatics Studies (CLEI) has announced its new leadership team for 2025-2026 after recent elections.
Taking over as President is Dr Luca Cernuzzi. A Professor at the Catholic University “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” (Paraguay) since 1991, he holds a Doctorate in Computer Science and a PhD in Engineering. He specialises in Social Informatics and Software Engineering, with over 180 publications and extensive experience leading R+D+i projects and advising the public sector.
The Secretary is Carlos Luna is an Associate Professor at the Universidad de la República (FING-UDELAR), Uruguay, specialising in computer security. With a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Computer Science, he has published over 60 scientific papers and contributed to numerous national and international research projects. His work focuses on formal methods, program verification, software and system security, and blockchain technology, including security models for mobile devices and cryptocurrency protocols.
The Treasurer, Dr Carla Taramasco, is Director of the Institute of Technology for Innovation in Health and Wellness, and a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Andrés Bello (Chile). She holds advanced degrees in science, cognitive sciences and applied informatics and specialises in eHealth, mHealth, telemedicine, IoT, wearables and Big Data, developing innovative health solutions and integrating technology for chronic disease management, public health and complex social systems.
Rounding out the committee is Past President, Dr Jose Aguilar, a Professor at the Universidad de Los Andes, Venezuela, who holds advanced degrees in Computer Science and conducts research into parallel and distributed systems, computational intelligence applied to combinatorial optimization, pattern recognition, control systems, data and semantic mining, and more.
In responding to the announcement, IFIP President Anthony Wong congratulated Dr Cernuzzi on the election result, saying that he looked forward to building a close and productive partnership in the coming weeks and months.
Mr Wong also extended his heartfelt gratitude to Luca and CLEI for their contributions in the past year. “Your dedication, passion, and support have made a positive impact in advancing IFIP and technology for the greater good,” he said. “As we move forward into 2025, I am excited about the opportunities to continue making a difference together with our partners and stakeholders.”
