The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS), IFIP’s Member Society in Cyprus, successfully staged Robotex Cyprus 2026, the country’s largest educational robotics festival, bringing thousands of visitors to the University of Cyprus Sports Centre on 27-28 June for a weekend celebrating robotics, AI and STEAM.
Organised by CCS in collaboration with the University of Cyprus, the Youth Board of Cyprus and IET Cyprus, the event attracted thousands of visitors and brought together 700 participants, including school students, university students and adults, who competed across more than 20 robotics challenges showcasing technical skills, creativity and innovation.
The festival was attended by representatives of government, academia and industry, reflecting the growing importance of robotics, AI and digital innovation in education. Robotex International CEO Nathan Matsala also attended the event, highlighting Cyprus’ long-standing role in the Robotex community as the first country to establish Robotex as a national competition. Winning teams earned the opportunity to represent Cyprus at Robotex International 2026, which will be held in South Korea for the first time.

Alongside the competitions, visitors explored a diverse programme of interactive activities spanning robotics, AI, drones, virtual reality, space science and engineering. Highlights included autonomous drone competitions, the popular Human vs Robot chess challenge featuring the AI-powered SenseRobot, interactive planetarium activities exploring space and AI, 3D printing demonstrations, Drone Soccer and a wide range of hands-on STEAM experiences.
A dedicated primary school category challenged students to develop robotics projects addressing sustainable development under the theme Green Island, while the Girls Firefighting competition continued its focus on encouraging greater participation by girls in STEAM disciplines.
Robotex Cyprus 2026 once again demonstrated CCS’s commitment to inspiring young people to explore robotics, AI and emerging technologies while helping to develop the next generation of digital innovators in Cyprus.
