Addressing the urgent need to increase girls’ participation in ICT and STEM careers, the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) is partnering with the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS) to co-host a national conference dedicated to strengthening career guidance in these fields.

The one-day event, titled Teachers and Career Choices in ICT and STEM, will take place on Tuesday 3 March 2026 in Nicosia, under the auspices of the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth. It is being organised in cooperation with ten public and private universities across Cyprus.

The initiative responds to concerning European statistics that rank Cyprus among the lowest countries for women’s participation in STEM professions. At a time when digital transformation and emerging technologies are reshaping economies and employment, improving female representation in these sectors has become both a social and economic priority.

Organisers stress that increasing girls’ engagement in STEM is not only a matter of equality but a strategic investment in national competitiveness and sustainable growth. Research consistently shows that diverse teams produce more comprehensive and effective solutions to complex challenges.

The conference will place particular emphasis on the role of teachers in shaping students’ perceptions and career aspirations. Through the sharing of good practice and stronger collaboration between schools and higher education institutions, the event aims to equip educators with practical strategies to encourage more young women to pursue ICT and STEM studies.

The event will run from 8:00am to 2:00pm and will be conducted in Greek. It is open to teachers at all levels, ICT and STEM educators, trainers, career counsellors and parents.
