We had a fantastic two days at this year’s UK Computing Summit hosted by Sheffield Hallam University.
Together with CHPC and UKCRC BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT welcomed the UK Computing HE community for an inspiring programme of workshops and talks including:
🌍 Sustainability for better Computer Science
🌱 Fresh thinking for gender diversity
🎲 The impact of AI on young people and their careers
🌟 Strategies for recruitment and retention of HE staff.
And, of course, plenty of opportunities for everyone to catch up with colleagues from across the UK.
Highlights included:
- Inspiration from Tom Crick MBE Chris Johnson and Sarah Sharples FREng sharing insight from their roles as Chief Scientific Advisers for DCMS, DSIT and DfT;
- Challenge from IOE – UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society Louise Archer for a change of practice for gender diversity;
- Sue Sentance joined in conversation by Petar Veličković, who unpacked his career pathway to research scientist at Google Deepmind;
- Rupert Ward talked about the chartered profession and pathways through accredited courses to the new CITP standard; and
- Jim Dickinson shared his thoughts on what’s next for higher education policy and asked can we influence it!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the event and especially to all of our speakers and sponsors. And to Dharam Shadija and the team at SHU for your hospitality.
