Arthur Tatnall will take on the role as IFIP’s official Historian following the retirement of Roger Johnson after seven years in the role. 

An active participant in IFIP for over 20 years, is a member and former Chair of IFIP WG9.7, History of Computing, a member and former Chair of IFIP WG3.4, ICT in Professional and Vocational Education, and a member of IFIP WG3.7 – Information Technology in Educational Management.

Arthur’s long-standing interest in computing history has been evident through his involvement in running four conferences for WG9.7, being Editor of two IFIP/Springer books, namely, Reflections on the History of Computing (2012) and Reflections on the History of Computers in Education (2014).

He also wrote History of Computers: Hardware and Software Development, in Encyclopaedia of Life Support Systems 2012, UNESCO – Eolss Publishers Co Ltd and continues to serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Education and Information Technologies (2009-).

Arthur was awarded an IFIP Silver Core (2019), an IFIP Outstanding Service Award (2012) and the ACS President’s Award (2018). 

IFIP is grateful and appreciative to Roger Johnson for his many achievements and initiatives during his term as IFIP Historian.
