ACS (Australian Computer Society) has established a new Sustainability Technical Committee, bringing together leading experts from industry and academia to help shape the role of technology in building a more sustainable future.
The Committee will provide thought leadership and contribute to industry standards by combining technical expertise with environmental vision. Its work will focus on supporting sustainability and ESG outcomes through ICT innovation and deployment, while also developing practical resources to help organisations meet emerging compliance and governance requirements.
By strengthening collaboration between technology, industry and government, the initiative further positions ACS as a trusted voice in the national sustainability conversation.
The sustainability debate carries profound implications for our shared future, with technology playing a central role in enabling innovation, resilience and long-term environmental outcomes. Through this Committee, ACS reinforces its commitment to supporting a greener and more sustainable world.
Congratulations to the inaugural Committee members: Arun Kannan, Payal Tiwari, ABM Nayeem, Mary Nottle MACS CP, Richard Godsmark, Uttio Chakraborty (Tio), Dr Tim Prosser, Dr Umera Imtinan, Tom Zorde, Sarani J, Divya Ananthkumar and Cindy Chung.
The Sustainability TC joins ACS’s existing Technical Advisory Boards and Committees, which include AI in Society, AI Technical Advancement, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, Data Sharing, Education and IT Governance. Together, these initiatives continue to strengthen ACS alignment with IFIP, of which ACS is an active member.
Across the ACS TCs and IFIP Working Groups, there are currently 124 individuals involved. While female representation across the groups sits slightly above the broader ICT industry norm of approximately 27–30 per cent, women hold a majority of the TC leadership positions, highlighting the growing influence of female technology leaders within these strategic initiatives.
Great work by Jarred Arnold and the ACS Management Committee in helping bring this important initiative to life.
